HOW TO LEAD A WATER BAPTISM
In Matthew 28:19, Jesus calls us to believe and be baptized. If you want to be baptized or someone you know wants to be baptized --that is something that can be done at home! It doesn’t require a pastor, but simply another devoted follower of Jesus. Here’s how you can get started!
1. Find a body of water. A lake, a pool, or even a bathtub will do.
2. Invite your watch party, or any friends and family members. You may also want to ask someone to capture photos or video to commemorate the occasion.
3. Have the person enter into the water, and if it is a large enough area, enter in with them. Ask them the following questions:
Who is your savior? (Jesus, or Jesus Christ are the answers we’re looking for)
Have you decided to follow Jesus all the days of your life? (Yes!)
Allow them to share a bit of their story.
4. Baptize them. Share that you are going to baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Encourage them to plug their nose.
Hold them with one hand behind their back and slowly lower them into the water as you say" I baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit"; then lift them back up. The entire actual baptism (dunking) process should take five seconds.
**If you like, send me a picture of your baptism and 1-2 lines of your profession of faith in Christ and the name of who baptized you. As an ordained minister and spiritual father, I will send you back a confirmation letter as a spiritual witness.
Congratulations!
Thomas Knowles, Minister of the Gospel of Christ Jesus
